about

"Thomas Meleteas is an active musician and composer based in Athens, Greece. Having collaborated with various artists of the Greek music scene, ranging from traditional and modal music to jazz and post-rock, he created a trio dedicated to perform his Oud compositions, along with fellow musicians Georgis Mouchtaris on double bass and Sotiris Tsolis on drums.

The Oud, an ancient stringed instrument hailing from the Arab peninsula and a precursor to the lute and guitar instrument families has been a defining part of the eastern musical tradition and a staple in the Greek folk and urban repertoire for generations. Here, it serves as a basis and inspiration for original compositions, which fuse the modal traditions of the eastern Mediterranean with contemporary aesthetics and playful improvisations."
